Did GM 10 bolt 8.5 rear ends come in 58'' or only 60''?

  4. The 10 Bolt out of my 93 Camaro is 62'' and I was wondering what it would take to narrow it !

Depending on how potent your rocket is, and how hard you drive it, and how big the tires are, you migth get by with the 7.5" rear from a 78-86 midsize GM, they're about 58.5" wide at the drums and you should be able to find one with the ratio you want.

Maybe you ought to look for a Ford rearend then....or perhaps one of those hard to find olds/pontiac units from the late 50s/early 60s....and spend some $$$ building it to the correct width and high strength.

One good thing--you're one of the only guys in the world that actually wants 2.56 gears. Those rears usually go pretty cheap.

Look for 71 and up nova. They have 8.5" 10 bolt rears that are the same as 1st gen camaros. I believe they are about 58". Most of them have stupid high gears in them like a 2.56 also.

Most of the early olds/pontiac rears have mid 3 series gears it seems. They looks to be the right width however. I have one in my 49' thanks the fat hack.

  11. Yep, as Rick said, get one from a 71-74 Nova. They are still like 59 inches wide though. It sounds like you are building a car for high speed, if so, it might be nice to have the Ford 8 or 9-inch and the drop-out center to ease gear ratio changes. The Granada/Monarch/Versailles are 58 inches wide. However the 9-inch Granda rearends are pretty rare and hard to find. The 57-59 Fords have the 58 inch wide rear also.

You can find 2.47, 2.50 and 2.75 gears for the 9", usually pretty cheap.

i just found some rims that i never sent back to stockton wheels cuz they tried to screw me over on a bunch of shit! they have enough back spacing to run a 60" Rearend so i think i'll go with a Nova 10 bolt 8.5 with those CHEAP 2.56 that NO ONE wants!:D

geez, if you were closer, I'd trade you the 10 bolt under our bucket with 2.40 GEARS! Thing will go 195 miles an hour, (after a couple days and a few hundred miles build up) :D

L60 tires fit an 8" rim pretty well.
