  3. Well I made the mistake of telling the wife my hand improved quite a bit since the last doctor visit, now I've been busy doing things that I let go since last summer! That's OK I'll be done shortly. The 56 wiring job snowballed into an almost total rewire all modified as well. It's coming along nicely. I hope to have something worth taking a picture of soon.
Since we all like pictures here’s one of the 56 not long after i got it. For a reminder of what it once was.

  4. Ok it’s time to get back to this thread. The 57 vette is now gutted like a dead fish getting ready for a repaint and repower. The plan is to get the vette hauled off in the next few days. Then get caught up on some oil changes on the lift then hit the 56 belair hard. The doctor helped out with the main pain issue on my left hand, i’m still a bit limited but can do the cave man work good enough! The vette should be blasted/painted and partially reassembled by the end of the year. I should be able to get the belair buttoned up by then. That gives me the rest of the winter to finish the vette. I’ve never had one real nice car let alone two! PLEASE FEEL FREE TO HARASS ME if i don’t show progress. 115E4ADF-D164-4C58-A83E-64EA2E699C18.jpeg 6EB3BEC7-81FF-4D7F-9BFB-104DAF6CC112.jpeg D5A0FCFA-2F45-423C-A56D-56D9FA66BE85.jpeg

  7. That trans is one of those weirdo Chrysler/GM hybrids, 4th gear being overdrive. I found it quite awkward. A wide ratio Muncie is going back in.

  8. It's all good man, we're all weirdos so it fits in :D

Er what? Never heard of that. What and when did those come in?

  12. It's based on the A833 4 speed. It was used in 80's GM trucks and vans. The gearing is reconfigured so that 4th (1 to 1) is used as third and the former third gear is re-geared to become overdrive.

Interesting. Probably sounded good back then before 5 speeds were plentiful. Is that the stock trans tunnel opening? I noticed on mine from underneath there's not much you can get to.

ORANGE is cool! Best of luck in your endeavors! Reminds me of 1984 , when I tore my ‘64 apart...by 1986 I knew it was the right choice!

  15. That's the stock opening but a modified trans tunnel cover, the shifter area has been moved a bit.

  16. Off to the blaster then the paint shop! To be honest i’m kind of sick to my stomach seeing the car like this. Dad bought it in ‘62 and had it dismantled by ‘66 after several paint jobs, engines and transmissions. I was born in ‘67 it sat dismantled until i was a junior in high school. We got it finished right after i graduated in the summer of ‘85. Several years ago Dad wanted to get it painted but i talked him out of it, he was in his 70’s and i was sure it would wind up in paint hell for several years. Dad would be happy to see it finally getting fresh paint.

  17. OK i can finally admit That it had a 1985 corvette TPI 350 since the 90’s:D.It will go back together with a carbed 327 and a wide ratio muncie and about 1689’ less wire. There are about 437 extra holes to be filled. Every screw hole on the fiberglass needs repair. There are very few 57 vette parts left:rolleyes:. The purists would cringe!!

  18. This wheel has been covered with a black leather wrap since the 80’s, it’s nice to see it again!

The 56 Belair is coming along slowly, still not happy with the brakes. I bled them with a power bleeder. i pushed a quart of fluid thru after the last bubble just to be sure and the pedal is still soft and low but does not pump up like if it still has air in system. I’ll have to look into that.

  19. I’m a little scared now! The car had , i believe, 6 paint jobs on it. So it really needs to be stripped 716AF869-B654-4AB3-AF0B-5BE0F6F4D63D.jpeg

  24. Impresses me to see a naked '57 Chevy body without rust!
There was no residual medium on the ground when the dude soda blasted my parts. Possibly what your guy used? Are walnut shells still used I wonder..

  25. It is nice to see no body rust, but vettes have a lot more rust issues than most people think. Obviously the frames rust and any body braces/reinforcements as well. The midyears have metal structure around the cockpit that’s prone to rust. The early cars don’t have much metal in the body tho.

  26. Yes, I hear birdcage rust is like the grim reaper for midyears.

  27. Glass bead is what i was told
