Hot Rods Getting something done!

I’m not doing it! The #ole57 is getting picked up in the morning to get the body un-modified to install trim that’s been missing since the 60’s. I just found out my favorite machine shop is still open but SLOW so I’m dropping off a SJ 327 to be built into a L79 350hp clone. All this may lead into a new hugger orange paint job. Fortunately the wife and I are still working, I’m working 50-60 hours a week. It’s my duty to help support the small shops. Here’s a pic of the fantastic plastic Hoopty Wednesday

 

Here’s my inspiration for hugger orange, a pic I swiped of the interwebz and a pic of my car in 1962 in Venetian red.

It doesn’t look that good up close! It always looks great in pictures tho

 

Looks good to me, although photos usually make them look better because they don’t show the detail.
When you know the car intimately, you also know all it’s imperfections, hence you are more critical.

90% of the time I see it it’s under shop lights. And it looks terrible. It’s a 30 year old crappy paint job. If I have it painted I can start fresh with my chips and scratches

 

My Dad bought this car in 1962, I grew up playing in it, I’ve had possession of it for about two years. I’m under direct orders to do what I want to it. Dad would haunt me if I restored it!

The black and silver is a great combo but I've been looking at it for 35 years. It needs paint anyway so........

I had a '62 fawn beige two tops car for 15 years and traded it for my '40 Chevey convert 41 years ago. I did early Corvette repaints, flares, lace paint and mechanical work for about 20 years. I miss those cars and always loved their simplicity.The last one I did was a '56 hardtop car about 30 years ago. It's still with the second owner. I'm still pals with the first owner.

Even a rotten or wrecked 57 Corvette looks good!

 

The front corners are on, they’re fitting the shiny bits. The rear horizontal things are on, I’m not going to use the exhaust trim on the quarters.

 

Shiny bits fit, some primer on now. Should be back home soon!

Not yet, he’s going to blend in the black. Maybe this fall it’ll go orange
