Someone told me that this thing was built by George Barris, maybe in the '60's or '70's............It is a huge motorized Schlitz beer can......it looks to be about 12 feet high and 6 feet wide........they used it in all sorts of parades and at the Indy 500 and such. It is for sale......I wonder what it's worth? Gosh, I haven't had a Schiltz since grade school! :p

I don't know the answer ,,but willing to bet there are/were quite a few people who built some pretty wild stuff for advertising back in the day.Would'nt be suprised if they have a kinda cult following,,Oscar Meyer truck etc. and alot I'm sure we'll never see that are rotting away somewhere

That's cool. There were several Strohs can cars made in the eighties. They used to tour with Alex the dog (you know, the one who's master trained him to fetch beers except the dog would drink them instead of bringing them).

The can label on that Schlitz car is from the mid 70s.

There is a shlitz can car in my area too, but the can is mounted lengthwise over the frame, not vertical like this one. It's not the only one that was built either, they were promo cars for the company and most had built in kegs/tappers to be used on site for promo stuff.

Fairly sure Barris had nothing to do with them, but still pretty neat.

There was one Barris car I really liked but never saw in a magazine. I saw it two times in person. At Barris's shop when I was a kid, I saw his wife's Lincoln Continental mkII. Candy red with stacked dual headlights. I saw the front cap years later on a rack in a junk yard.

On this particular large beer can, nothing can be seen under the can.....all of the running gear is concealed.......the driver looks through the Schlitz logo on the front of the can.....the logo is colored lexan or other plastic. It even has headlights in it.

Looks pretty cool. I'd put it in my yard! Christmas is coming...I can see it all decked out in lights already!

Imagine a televised high speed chase with the cops chasing a dude in that thing...under suspicion of DUI....

Just don't pop the top or you'll be driving an open container

  18. If he did build it, it's definately some of his better work.

    RagBaster,

:D Just ask G. Barris and he'll tell you he build every kustom car ever made. I wouldn't buy it because Georgie build it, but because it like it. My two cents....

    Cruiser

  22. They've starting putting up some billboard advertising around here (Tampa Bay) for "Schlitz... The Gusto is Back"

If my Grandfather was still alive, he'd know where it came from, he used to build the (Remke) truck bodies for them.

I second the barris will sign anything for money... I heard he was getting several thousand dollars a pop to show up at barret jackson and be there when a car he had worked on 30+ years ago went across the block....I know he is a legend and all but some of this is getting out of hand...he isn't the one restoring/building them
