has any one with a 1951 mercury with a chevy 350 eng & 350 trans installed one in there car were there any clearance problems are you happy with the results thank you richard [email protected]
why not spend your money on a upgraded 200R4 that will replace your 350 instead of adding more complications to your ride - one trans source to look at, out of Texas: phoenixtrans.com
The gear venders Of units run like $2000.00, and require a bunch of mounting modifications. And add 2-3 more leak points and another part to fail. Just get a 700R4 for the same or less money and minimize your headache. Sent from my XT1585 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
$2000? been a while since you priced them, eh? closer to 3. But I have a couple, they're nice units....for something besides the car we're talking about here.
The main advantage to the GV unit is you can split all the gears. Comes in real handy on motorhomes, drag cars etc. If your just building a cruiser, yes the 200 or 700R is the way to go.
The gear vendors are great units. They work well if you use them properly. The ones I saw for warranty issues were the result of not using direct mode around town ,coasting while in overdrive....as well not having the larger sump.Putting the gear vendor unit on a TH350 will increase it's length. Unless you are going to tow a trailer loaded to 20,00 pounds...nobody wants to split shift gears.Even with a bone stock 350 engine you have more than enough power.A 200r4 or 700R4 are a more reasonable choice.
All the more reason to go with a 700R4. We use them for all builds that aren't LS builds throw in a monster drum, 65 planetary set wide 2nd gear band and Kevlar/ceramic frictions and you have a trans good for 450-500hp. This sounds pretty basic so you are going g to be fine with just a basic rebuild and wide band and monster drum. Drop her in and go. Sent from my XT1585 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
They are very nice, in the application that they are intended for, which is not a hot rod or custom. Just get a prepped 200-4R or 700R4. A 200-4R that will fit with no floor modifications can be had $1700, and that can support up to 400hp. If you have, or expect to have more, you can step up, and that will cost $2200. Either way, you are ahead of a GV/OD, which would be $2695, and would require floor, and possibly seat, modifications. If you absolutely must have 6-gears, I think I could find you a decent used 6L80E, and a computer to run it, for less than the price of the GV/OD.
I paid $2500.00 for one to go with a TH400 behind a 502BBC in my Chevelle 6 years ago - should have used a 700R. Now have a crate LS3, 495hp w/4L70 - love it. Leave the Gear Vendor to the motor homes.
