I am building a '29 Ford closed cab pickup and looking for some input on
gear selection since I still need a third member!
The truck will probably weigh maybe 1800#.
Powered by a SBC 383, mild cam, Edelbrock 600 cfm.
    Built 700R4 w/Transgo kit, Covette servo, Z-pack.
    1800 - 2000 stall converter w/lockup in overdrive.
    30 inch MT tires.
The rear end housing is a narrowed 8" Ford.
    Available gearing is: 3:55, 3:80 & 4:11.
    I am leaning toward a 4:11 posi.
Too tall a gear?-----What do you think?

With 30" tires and an OD trans I think the 4:11's will be a good choice.
Should give you 70MPH at a little over 2200 RPM.

I'm coming up with 2350 rpm @ 75 with the 4.11s. Not bad at all.

  4. 4.11 s will put you at 2000-2100 rpms in od at 65 MPH.
Sound like that will work well with your set up. Posi too!
