Don`t listen to any of them. start a new trend- Build a customized gasser. 25 years i remember seeing a chopped 49 Plymouth gasser, it was cool. Case settled-just do it.

  2. Always loved the gasser look on a 55.........

But you don't have to do the whole " straight front axle" deal to get a competition look, here's a stock front end 55 racer......

I just went for a street racer look when I first built mine back in the late 70's......... lots of options when it comes to building a tri 5 Chevy!

I usually like 55's built as gassers better.

    One of my favorites...

As much time, money, and love that goes into these cars you have to respect that. Do you want to own one thats up to you. Ive had a project or two in the garage for over 40 years I dont think its a fad. Ron

I am kinda partial to customs, although this 1 is not mild.

Gordy, Butch and Ed... What are the specs of your drop in front? 2" spindles and what size springs? 1 1/2"? 2"? They look great. I'm getting ready to drop my wagon.

another combo is to get 57 caddy spindles with 55-59 3/4 truck springs minus 1 coill. ......gives 3 inches.

Im for the gassers, I dont think its a fad after 50 years and still going strong. This car has been a race car since 1960 and I have pictures of it racing with a flag starter before christmas trees and she's still going strong today.

I agree they look good all different ways if they are done tastefully. You can ruin a nice car with a goofy paint job or an ugly set of wheels.I like the gasser look or simple nostalgia look. Here's some pics of 55's I have or had in the past.

Some people just don't understand how important it is to use the correct wheels. I just don't get why these guys spend tens of thousands of dollars building a period correct car and put on some cheap ass Japan wheels? Just like building an old school rod and buying weld wheel rod lites or something. Now I see all these so call period correct gassers and they have these new Japan big window wheels that they call Halibrand look a likes, who are you trying to kid? To the purest you look like a stupid fool! Get your wheels together man! Geeeeez............

    That is bad ass!!!

I like the Marion's Tire sticker too... My dad is good freinds with Joe, he went to school with him and used to help out there when Marion ran it... Wouldn't buy my wheels and tires from anybody but Marion's.. It's cool goin' down there with dad and just listening to him and Joe shoot the shit, lots of great stories...

anyways sorry to hijack the thread, I think if I had a 55 it would get the gasser treatment.. I've got a 394 that would work great with a big blower, a hydrostick and an Olds rear...

Here's one of my favorite '55 gasser's Don's Automotive on the Berlin Turnpike, in CT. The picture was taken at the Autorama, at the state armory in Hartford, in '62.
