From what I remember, at least 3 threads. But its been along time since I've had to deal with that. May have been more.

If I remember correctly, as long as it stuck through the lug nut.
Just lazy to cut it off. I and my friends used to the same thing.

From the rule book: The thread engagement on all wheel studs to the lug nut, or lug bolt to wheel hubs must be equivalent to or greater than the diameter of the stud/bolt. Length of stud/bolt does not determine permissibility. Example: a 7/16-inch stud must be thoroughly engaged through the threads in the hex portion of the lug a minimum of 7/16-inch

One of the IHRA rulebooks says "At least one full thread showing past the lug nut."

    HEY! Looks like my daughter.......:D

  16. ARGH my white headers are a failure.
Had the new headers baked, blasted and ceramic coated white.
Didnt hold up to run heat in idle!
The shop has tried multiple test panels with no solution.
They will now end up silver ceramic.
    Another disappointing result.

I have seen white header wrap available. Doesnt seem period correct?

I'm not a big fan of ceramic coated, I find they just don't last that well. The wrap on steel headers just accelerates the rusting.
The only thing I've found that lasts is aluminum flame sprayed, it maybe called something different over there but it's molten aluminum sprayed onto the surface, I've found it has at least a 10 year lifespan.
The machine looks like a mig welder/spraygun, the arc melts the aluminium coil as it passes through and the air pressure sprays it on to the surface, done correctly leaves a nice surface finish and has a light grey look, I overcoat this with white vht.

I have had great success using white VHT from the auto parts store. You need to blast the headers clean, then bake them to about 400F in the oven. Don't touch them after the oven. Allow to cool then follow the instructions to the letter on the can. Basically after painting bake to 200f, allow cool, then 400f, allow cool then 600f and allow cool. The oven cures it evenly. If you paint then let the exhaust heat cure them, it doesn't work. Need to be clean and slowly and evenly baked dry. Mine have been pretty nice for over 2 seasons now and still look pretty good.

I was talking to a HPC rep about 10 years ago about white ceramic coating. He told me then that there was no white that would hold up. He said coat them in silver and then paint white header paint over that. With the lower temp from the HPC inside and out, the header paint should last a long time.

BTW I had some headers ceramic coated sometime before 1994. The headers looked almost the same when I sold the car a few years ago as they did when I put them on. Rust is starting to show through them now, but the car sits out in the weather everyday too.

There were some spots on my silver ceramic coated headers that I scraped doing engine swaps. I touched them up with silver header paint and it never gave a problem. But I realize painting the whole header might give different results.
