The old man is working on local customer's 55 Chevy drag car. Car came from the Arkansas area. He is installing a new ladder bar floater setup and hopefully a staight axle setup. Owner welded on the rear quarters and the plan is to trim them out for the big meats. Looks like a small block right now and some sort of heavy duty manual trans mounted in it.
Those post cars were made to be gasser style hotrods. Giddy-up! Wish I'd have loaded up on 'em when you could buy 'em for a couple hundred bucks all day long... Cool project, keep us posted.
About the quarters, What do you mean by "trim them out" Is he gonna radius them after putting new ones in? If so I cant visualize what would have been wrong with the old ones to justify spending all that money and time putting new full quarters in with the wheel well lip only to cut it out instead of just fixing whatever the problem was, with sheet metal, if hes gonna hafta do all that body work anyway after welding them in the way he did.
Originally I was told the plan was to Kleeco them on temporarily, radius them, take them back off and put a nice lip on them with the Pullmax but I guess the owner just wanted the flat look. I am not sure what the original quarters looked like but I did notice they are installing some floor pan areas as well so the quarters may have been rough....
I would save the pieces you cut out, someone may want them. I just put some sections back in a 55 I had last year, that had been radiused. Even tho my avatar doesnt suggest it I prefer quarters (no radius) on a 55.
