So are you guys using flux for gas welding patch panels? My dad wouldn't weld or braze without it and I've been trying out the Harris Welco powder that he had, it doesn't seem to really make much difference. It maybe reduces the occasional popping a little bit, but it leaves a glassy film on the metal, will that be a problem for painting later on? Thanks for any and all opinions.

Flux and flux coated rods work fine ....keep the flame down low and use a heat sink material (I've used wet asbestos) plumbers and HVAC guyes use it (heat sink)....haven't ever had trouble with body filler holding on.......I filled about 30 trim holes using brass and it still looks good after 25 years or so.....the glassy material will grind off with no problem......mig welders kinda made brass a thing of the past......but if you wanna do it ole school, go fer it.
