I am building my own gas tank out of sheet metal and am wondering what to use on the inside of the tank for rust protection. Paint or some sort of gas tank sealer POR 15? The tank will be sealed with solder around the endges but what to put on the metal for rust protection?

Get the pour in gas tank sealer. It prevents rust and will make sure that if you missed any pin holes when you soldered that your tank won't leak. I have used the stuff in two tanks I welded together and haven't had any leaks or rust issuses. One tank is 20 years old now.
