On top of rails, on top of some welting. IIRC the spring is used on one end only, but how many springs in the kit?

My tank on is bolted on top of the frame with little thin rubber pads (about 2 inches long) under the lip of the tank under each bolt mount location. My frame welting ends right before the tank. Having the frame welting run all the way to the back of the frame would be more ideal as those little rubber pads were difficult to get in position. I don't have any springs anywhere.

Here is a pic of it without the fenders and rear gas tank cover.

My boxing plates have access holes to get to the bottom of the bolts like in this picture which I Googled. However, in this pic, they removed the stock rear cross member, but I still have the rear cross member.

I used the rubber pads Drake sells for a 35, on top of rail. Worked great!

If what you have looks like these two pictures, you have a radiator mount kit.

The springs go on one end, doesn't matter which end. The spring goes on the bottom of the frame. They are used so when the frame twists the gas tank is not twisted. Without the springs the constant twist of the frame twisting the gas tank would cause the tank to leak. You usually see the springs on trucks. But they are probably not needed now as the roads are way better then in 1934.

So you're saying the tank was originally mounted the same as the radiator? Interesting. Didn't know that. Makes total sense though.

That make a lot of sense when you say one end or the other do you mean across the short end or across the width

The springs go on either the drivers side or the passenger side.

I would have thought that two bolts along one side of tank, with one bolt at front of tank, and one at rear of tank, and on the opposite chassis rail, in the centre of tank you put the spring loaded bolt.

Realizing this is almost a 5YR old post, I’m only commenting to note that Clem is correct. Spring goes on drivers side single bolt.
