On the gas tank install on a 34 ford Tudor Sedan I have the replacement tank from Tanks inc I have a install kit from Bob Drake been searching for a picture or some Instruction on where the tank sits in its stock location in the back of Chassis meaning on top of the Rails or underneath of the top flange of the rail the mounting kit comes with the Bolts and springs where do the Springs go or am I to Hard mount the Tank on a piece of body welting or some rubber material would like to hear your thoughts on this and if anybody knows where the springs in the kit Go THANK YOU Clyde
On top of rails, on top of some welting. IIRC the spring is used on one end only, but how many springs in the kit?
Their are 2 Springs and bolts in the kit And Thank you for your reply and Picture that helped a lot But I still not following about where the Springs Go. Looks like you are Solid Mount with welting as you said are you using the springs or not ?? Thank You Again For You Help And I like Your Carbon Look Nice Touch
My tank on is bolted on top of the frame with little thin rubber pads (about 2 inches long) under the lip of the tank under each bolt mount location. My frame welting ends right before the tank. Having the frame welting run all the way to the back of the frame would be more ideal as those little rubber pads were difficult to get in position. I don't have any springs anywhere. Here is a pic of it without the fenders and rear gas tank cover. My boxing plates have access holes to get to the bottom of the bolts like in this picture which I Googled. However, in this pic, they removed the stock rear cross member, but I still have the rear cross member.
I used the rubber pads Drake sells for a 35, on top of rail. Worked great! Sent from my SM-G900V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
The springs go on one end, doesn't matter which end. The spring goes on the bottom of the frame. They are used so when the frame twists the gas tank is not twisted. Without the springs the constant twist of the frame twisting the gas tank would cause the tank to leak. You usually see the springs on trucks. But they are probably not needed now as the roads are way better then in 1934.
So you're saying the tank was originally mounted the same as the radiator? Interesting. Didn't know that. Makes total sense though.
I Have the Radiator Mount kit also but I thought I had a fuel tank mount kit also I will check again when I get back home THANK YOU
That make a lot of sense when you say one end or the other do you mean across the short end or across the width
Didn't realize the 34 tank mount setup utilized a spring for frame flex. Makes sense, but may not be needed with a boxed frame? Just when I thought about everything there was to know about 33/34's! https://www.bobdrake.com/FordItem.a...Category=5b8fbb29-d3c6-49d8-a335-6a01a6d4c64f
I would have thought that two bolts along one side of tank, with one bolt at front of tank, and one at rear of tank, and on the opposite chassis rail, in the centre of tank you put the spring loaded bolt.
Realizing this is almost a 5YR old post, I’m only commenting to note that Clem is correct. Spring goes on drivers side single bolt.
