They've been posted before and there are 5 pages if you search for gasser rules, but I don't guess one more thread will matter. From 1966 Larry T
If you want to run your gasser now, there are associations from the East Coast to the West Coast. Or you might check out NHRA's Heritage Series. http://www.nhrahotrodheritage.com/rules-09.pdf
Larry T, Do you know what year this was for? This is really interesting. A LOT of rules and regs there.
This was from 1966. I've got a 64 rulebook and the rules are basically the same. In 1968 you could build you're own frame and use a fiberglass body (in the supercharged classes).
Thanks, now I see it (1966) in the opening paragraph I never raced Gas, just Stock and PS. I am suprised at how restrictive the rules were. And that leads to the question of whether there was a lot of protesting going on? Over in stock, there were always complaints the tech guys had to handle. Mostly over stupid stuff that didn't really matter anyways. But sore losers look for anything!
The part about suspension alterations to gain weight transfer to the rear wheels not being allowed intrigues me.So many gas cars nose high were against the rules?
Other interesting rules in 66; Anglia's could only run small blocks and No superchargers. Only two exhaust outlets, no Zoomies!
Awesome!! That answers some questions I have had floating around about my Austin, THANK YOU! Now we have somewhere to point people who post about their hi-boy gasser 30 Roadsters!
Thanks for posting, It looks like my Falcon is missing headlights and some interior stuff to be legal back in the day. It would be considered B/G but I would have had my ass handed to me. Jon
That was common place.......... That is the difference between building a car and go race it and see what class you fall into compared to building a car for a specific class. You described the usual outcome. That was a big factor in bringing about "Bracket Racing" Cool car by the way........
LARRY...the rules weren't the problem, but the cheating was. thay took your weight and devided it by your C.I. we had 1 dude at PORTER dragstrip who clamed 352 cubes. but he was running a 390 ford. it took 40 yrs. for bracket racing to GET fair. but i will say, BRACKET racing is as fair as drag racing can GET! and that's the truth, in my view...POP.
That wasn't just Gassers though. Any class with rules is subjected to folks trying to find their way around them. And you're right about brackets. Less rules-less cheating. But don't think there isn't cheating going on in bracket racing. Electronics are hard to police. Larry T
Sure, I'd love to see the changes. I know that things like full interior, mufflers or exhaust etc were changed. wonder what else.
I wish my scanner was working . I picked up a set of 1962 drag rules and I post them . The only thing I see on a quick read thru is the pounds per CI is a little different . Gasserman
