It took a while, but I think the seam is pretty close. There are a couple of low spots and I think I'll just
scratch them up for adhesion so I can get some DP on this area. If I was to do this again, I think it would be faster and easier to weld ( maybe spot weld) a lap seam and fill the joint with lead. The lead would fill and seal the seam and the panels would take less work.

That's a good looking project, Rich. At this point I'd kill for sheetmetal as straight as that. Keep me posted.

This is the last lead on the back of the car.
    IMG_0307 (698x412).jpg
One of 2 places that were pitted. I used silicon bronze to weld some shut and the lead smoothes out the rest.
    IMG_0308 (800x296).jpg
This was the worst area and I worried a long time " how do I do this". I was afraid I couldn't get it tinned ,but it worked well so far.

Love watching this thread. I see you are from Indiana. Lately I have been thinking Indiana is a pretty cool state to live in. With our new vice president that put your state in the black. Squirrel's post about no sales taxes on private vehicle sales and your build. A move looks might tempting.

You're certainly welcome to move here and we have many good features, but , where I live, the weather is not one of them.
Thanks fo your comments; I expect the pace to pick up very soon.

Great thread, it gives me an idea what I've gotten into on the '40 tudor project I just started. One goal I have for my car is to have no plastic body filler, not sure I'll be able to pull it off, but seeing someone else actually doing it is inspiring. Can't wait to see what comes next.

Well I was mistaken about the last lead. I found some pits in the area where the RR fender mounts and decided not to pass them up. I was masking the frame and sealing off the underside to keep out overspray when I decided to fix the pits.

There's not much to it and maybe not necessary, but I feel better.

I've been working on getting the back of the car primed and then painting the inner fender wells. Might be trying to make the car look better than it is.;) IMG_0331 (800x514).jpg

Closing up pits and flaws. drip rail was split on the underside, so I welded it up and filed it. I added a little lead to smooth it out.

both sides nearly ready. I should have sprayed prime today; the weather is great. A squirrel was climbing on the utility pole where my service comes in and shorted across the high voltage line; the squirrel burst into flames and caught the top of the pole on fire. My wife saw the pole smoldering and called the Fire Dept and I called the Electric Co. It took about 4 hrs. to get the pole patched up and power back. Maybe tomorrow.

Thanks, Sam. The warmer weather is supposed to hold on for a few more days which will allow me to get the room warm enough to get the DP to cure. I may have an opening with a good shop to get the car painted, but I have to get it completely prepped first.

    Thanks for the encouragement.

Squirrel was a stick of black carbon; the AEP tech said he got across the 7200 V line.

No primer yet. I had runny nose the last couple of days.. it might be an allergy.....to bodywork. It's almost all masked off.
    IMG_0339 (800x600).jpg IMG_0340 (800x654).jpg

It took a couple of hours today masking and some hand sanding around the drip rails.

I finally got the bare metal primed in DPLF 40. I've had the garage up to temp. for a week, but couldn't get time to paint it.

Now that looks like some good progress Joel! That should inspire you to invest some sweat in the coming days.

The weather is still spring like, so I'm moving along. My supplied air system mask broke a strap so I am going tomorrow morning to pick up a replacement ; then I can apply the K 36.

I wish I would have seen this build thread sooner! Just went through the whole thing. Gotta give you props man, fantastic work! You show many of the same philosophies I'm implementing on my own build...makes me feel just a little less crazy!! As so many have said before, thanks for sharing and I CAN'T WAIT to see more!

You bet, Sam and I'm glad to be here and dread it at the same time. Patience is the word of the day.

Welcome aboard, Mike. Thanks for the kind words. Sanding and priming is the plan.

I need a little more filler on the little sections in red

IMG_0358 (800x305).jpg IMG_0355 (800x486).jpg Well I was going to take more pix, but I was getting close on time to sand before applying other materials. I sanded the filler and got a little bare metal exposed, so, I just shot a fresh coat of DP.
    IMG_0354 (800x562).jpg IMG_0353 (800x600).jpg
I might use a little filler to smooth out some of the spot weld divots. What do you think?

If you are speaking of the of the spot welds at the bottom of the inner fender panel, no. You wil never see them when the fender is installed.
