i'm a fan of funny cars and happen to be fan of oldsmobiles....just wondered if anybody ever saw it... i read somewhere it lived a short life due to an end over end crash... and it was powered by a 392 hemi...........
I never saw it. BUT, I absolutely LOVE it! It goes right to the best era in drag racing (mid-late 60's). Thanks for posting it. It reminds me of the Mr Unswitchable chopped GTO Funny Car (66-67 i believe)

From the Nov. 1971 edition of Popular Hot Rod. "One of the most spectacular accident in funny car racing occured in the first round when Herm Lesmeister's Super442 went into a series of wild gyrations near the finish line, went off the track, climbed a telephone pole, flipped and came to rest right side up. Thanks to the Farkonas chassis, Herm recieved only minor injuries, but his $14,000 race car was destroyed." This happened at the 1971 Popular Hot Rod meet at U.S. 131 Dragway in Martin, Mi.
The photo caption says this was the only Olds funny car in existance. Maybe so in '71, but here's one that kicked major butt in the late 60's (this photo is from '67). Its the team of Lutz and Lundberg from Denver. I believe this may have been the very first "funny car" I ever saw - at Omaha, probably sometime in '66. This car was nicely done and very competitive (as were all of the L&L cars). You can see more pix of this and other Lutz and Lundberg cars at "Colorado Racing Memories" - where I lifted this photo.
You can go to oldsmobility.com also to see the car that Stan posted. They have build pictures of it. On the home page just look under famous Oldsmobile to find it. Steve p.s. They also have a short story and picture of the hairy hurst olds.
