I have a 50 coronet that has a leak on the tank plug.i noticed it has a star type head ,does anyone know if its threaded, and period correct? I wouldn't think star fittings were around back then?and what is best way to reseal?thanks

  2. how many points? if it has eight it could be designed for a square drive, 3/8 or 1/2 ratchet or breaker bar.

im sorry guess should have been more thorough... I know modern tanks don't have plugs, not familiar with 1950 "period" models.not sure if tank was replaced previously or if plug could have been changed to a torx head type, which im pretty sure they didn't have back then, dont know what kind of plug a 1950 dodge had on the tanks. can you please inform me .thanks

  6. That is the original plug, use 1/2" breaker bar .Treat it carefully it is mounted in a strange way. the threads do not seal it.It has a gasket

whats the thought of putting a epoxy around it to stop leak

  10. My '51 Hudson has the same plug and yes the square ratchet drive will get it out. If it's a true torx plug someone could have changed it somewhere down the line. I can't remember what I sealed mine with. If it requires a gasket you can always make one or in the case the threads do seal just use the thread sealant from permatex. I have had good success with it and fuel fuel fittings.

Might consider leaving the plug in and sealing the whole tank with Bill Hirsch tank sealer.
