  3. Unkl Ian - Cool collab piece!

Bob - I'm really digging this one. Reminds me a bit of the setting at the Movie Manor Motel for the annual Hot Rod Dirt Drags event.

    Here's mine for the week:

  7. Goodmoring and a great start. Last week I posted a sketch of an DECO towncar. I took the idea from the Chrome shop delivery. It's been one of my favorite Hot Rods.[IMG]

My version of the Sidewinder 1959-60

    Hello,

One of my favorite race cars and drivers was the Sidewinder with Jack Chrisman driving at Lions Dragstrip. It was a Joe Maillard sponsored, Paul Nicolini build that made believers out of everyone. Hearing that whistling chain, the powerful motor come to life was a sound I cherished since those early years 59-60 years ago.

Everyone has read all of the accolades that this Sidewinder race car has won and been awarded. If you missed the original Sidewinder back in 58-61, then here is a compilation film from 1959 of the Sidewinder at Lions. It was those early days of pushing down the strip to fire up and drive back in front of everyone for their enjoyment.

My final drawing came from a pencil sketch that looked weird, so a ruler and straight lines made it look better. The first edition drawing was a longer wheel based chassis. But, then it looked too much like the modern race cars. Sorry for the odd ball Halibrands and wire wheels. I haven't drawn wire wheels for quite some time, like 40 years ago?

The look(film), the sound all came from late 58 and 59. The sound was added last year when I discovered that the Sidewinder went to the Detroit U.S. Nationals in 1959.(Along with several other top So Cal racers) When I found the drag racing sounds, it matched the film that I had made of the Sidewinder at Lions in 1959. For those that did not hear it the first time:

    Sidewinder 1959 TURN IT UP!

I was lucky enough to see the Sidewinder at Lions in 59, what a thrill. Thanx for the post!

My 50 Chevy Fleetline mild custom. I really love the illustration style of auto brochures and ads of that era. 50_Fleetline.jpg
