cp 032.jpg I just found out...Clarence Clark, the owner of "JB's Drive In", passed away this week, after a brief, unforeseen illness, at the age of 81 :( "JB's" is a true American Drive In (and icon). It has been owned by the same family and in the same location since the 30's. It still has the best burgers, onion rings, malts, shakes and root beers around; still served in the traditional car hop/window tray manner. Thank you, Clarence... may your family carry on with your love and spirit at "JB's"! I call this image... "55 Drive By"... :)

I like that Spoggie! JB's has served up some pie for sure! I dont think they had Jack's favorite beverage, but he very well mighta passed through while he was "On The Road"; probably headed towards Boulder (my birthplace), on his way out to "Big Sur". I think as a kid, I mighta seen him sittin' on a 2nd story window ledge, knockin out some bongo beats with sticky pie fingers, as the sun was setting beyond "Flagstaff" and the "Flatirons" :D

  22. They had crazy nights on Larimer. He did mention apple pie east of Colorado, eaten in a town square.

I had a few crazy nights there myself, Spoggie! Crazy place/crazy history (oldest city block in Denver). The place still has that sorta weird, art underground feeling about it, with the clubs and bars (as if haunted by Jack). If you were a post war, beatnik/artsy vagabond, and wandered into a smoke filled Jazz Club on Larimer Square, it would've been no time at all before you wandered into Boulder to go to places like Tulagi's and the Sink. Somewhat wacky times, yet in it's own way, a very art driven culture! Crazy Daddy-o! I dig it! I got big smiles cuz you brought up Kerouac, Spoggie! Got my kicks; had a blast; been a gas hangin' with the tail bangin' cats! Was solid Jackson! Thanks! :)
