Many thanks to all that participate and contribute to the FAS! The beauty of the FAS is that it's a weekly cornucopia of automotive artistic expression, whether it's original artwork in the form of sketches or pen and ink or pencil, or sculpture, or photography, or written descriptions of what was posted, etc, etc. All of it, is great and all of it, is greatly appreciated !

Sounds exactly like griping to me. So good photography, not snapshots, isn't art. Okay.

  11. Okay, a couple questions. There are some real artist and Photographer's on here. We know you do great work!!! This is more for HAMB'ers like me. What is HAMB Art? In the art world some just throw paint aginst a wall. Then they call it ART? If my 2 year old colors me a picture, and it makes me smile. To me it's art. I don't have computer skills, or a real camera. I use a pencil, and a phone. So my question is this. What is HAMB ART ? Is it the subject matter? or is it the quality of the subject matter? I judge the art on here with a thank you. { the like button } So if I don't think it's HAMB Art, or if I don't like something, I don't hit the like button. It's my only gage on what I should post. I think it's Cool that you don't have to be a real artist or photographer to play. So what do you guys think? Would stuff like this be HAMB art? Thanks Ron.... 20160118_153415.jpg 20170106_115215.jpg 20160821_065823.jpg 20170221_142229.jpg 20160108_122343.jpg 247.jpg

...@Ron Funkhouser I believe all of those qualify as Hamb Friendly Art in my opinion...and further to your question of Hamb Art I would read that as Hamb Friendly as per guidelines...;)

@Ron Funkhouser just as a friendly critique, the Couch pic is the weakest image in that group due to the way you shot it as opposed to filling the frame with the image...I cropped it with my cellphone image editor...

This many times is a challenge due to any number of issues from curled up edges to distance from the image when shooting...so many details to consider...

I think your model works are called dioramas...

Ask 10 people what Art is and you'll get 10 different opinions...

Have fun and the rest will fall into place...and I know you do...I do the same...;)

  21. Ron the old saying that has always summed if up for me is that "Art is in the eye of the beholder." Every venue creates different guidelines and opportunities and in our case HAMB is the venue and how we express ourselves within those guidelines offers endless opportunities. All of that being said it would certainly seem that you fit the definition of artiest in my eyes.

Ron, in many instances it's the way something is presented. You have a knack
for building a scene for the toys and models you build. That's a talent. The
right touch can often take a snapshot that was "shot from the hip" and turn
it into something thoughtful and interesting. Real talent shows up here every
Friday and Friday mornings the Friday Art Show is the first thing I check
out on the H.A.M.B. I'm in awe of so much of the work that is posted here,
but I'm not ashamed to say that every once in a while I'm impressed by one
of my own photos. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, that's true, but it
is the job of the "artist" to help the image get there. There are differences
between the arts. The painter or sketch artist really has control over the
image. He/she can add or leave out somewhat easily. The photographer has
to work with the viewfinder and what is in front of him. Taking a couple of
steps in direction, shooting from a completely different angle can make all
the difference in the world. Maybe art is simply a state of mind?

I think this could be a kool calendar page or gearhead's greeting card.
Haven't most of us picked up a card that has a photo we dig? I made
very subtle changes to the image, simply in order to clean it a bit. I
didn't change the image at all, this is totally Ron.

To be considered art, anything you create visually , regardless of the medium you work in, should invoke some kind of emotion. Be it amazement, familiarity, anger etc. or just a smile...if you receive just 1 like, you've succeeded.:)

I believe the only parameters are, YOU created it, and it's HAMB friendly.:D
