I got a message, this morning from my old friend in Boston, that Fred Steele suffered a massive heart attack, and passed away from it. I knew him for many years, and have lost a good friend. You guys may remember his chopped and channeled, purple '32 roadster. I will pray for him and mourn his passing.
said to hear this.....while i never met him i certainly heard about him and his `32 many times over the years
I`m more of a custom guy, But I do love his 32 Ford. Enjoyed reading his article in the Street Rodder Merc issue about driving his Merc across country. Would of loved to of met the man, Rest in Peace.
Very sad news indeed.I always looked forward to seeing Fred at the old Ty-Rods shows and sharing a few(or more)adult beverages and telling war stories;most of which are unprintable in a family format.Godspeed my friend.
Sorry to hear about Fred's passing! Fred was a past member of the LAR club as an Associate member with card #53. Last time I spoke with him was at Detroit Nats in 1972. RIP Fred.
If you didn't know Fred it's impossible to describe what a character he was. We would meet up for the NSRA York show and going out to dinner with Fred was an adventure. I always went back and gave the waitress a few extra dollars for the tip. RIP Fred, there will never be another!!! Any body know whether he was in Mass. or at his Fla. home?
Met him back in the 80s at a KKOA show. One of a kind, one of those guys who becomes an instant friend. RIP
RIP Fred. One of my all time favourite cars, Everything about that little purple roadster just oozes perfection.
R.I.P. Fred. His '32 is an icon but I like his A Tudor too. Fred Steele '32 roadster milestone feature
Fred certainly lived the life of Hot Rods and things car related each time I saw him it was always a very entertaining experience. Fred was always joking around he enjoyed pulling your leg every chance he had. His Deuce roadster was certainly one of the icons here in the East Fred's memory will live on by way of his purple roadster. RIP my friend
So sad to hear. His 32 was an iconic East Coast rod.Loved his yellow Merc too.Now he is hanging with Boots Ripley,Alan Berry and many other Legends. RIP Fred.Godspeed.
That black and white photo from "Cool cars, Square roll bars" by the Shuman brothers, has Fred in the Marlon Brando" Wild Ones" hat in the middle ( next to his wicked pissah roadster). He had great cars and was a hot shit. He will be missed for sure. Mike " Cam Snappers" Newburyport, Mass. Est. 1952
