Hi Have a guy sending me pm's asking about this picture I reposted years ago. I got the picture from here somewhere but I can't find any more. Anybody have any other pictures of this car? Maybe some more history? This is what I was sent in a pm: "he was just a few points from taking the big trophy from Bill at the first show and also ran his Track Roadster at the lakes." PS: this was not a street rod. the car was yellow but looked white in the picture. 2nd place at the AMBR show speaks volumns for this race car. still looking for a picture."
Check out my thread: TRACK ROADSTERS FORM THE 1950's, page 1. post #6. Caption for this photo= "Oakland Roadster Show 1950 Fred Ige's CRA Car had a Winfeild Carb Manifold from one of the Harry Miller built Front Wheel Drive Ford Indy cars, car is painted bright yellow" I hope this helps ? cw......
The Fred Ige Track roadster was runner up at the 1st National Roadster Show. These images are from Hot Rod Magazine. It was featured I will look for the feature. These particular photos were sold by HRM in the 50s and about 8 years ago someone on ebay were selling photo reproductions.
It may be in hiding, it would be a great to see it had survived. But as far as I know it is long gone, A victim of the roadster races.
The track roadsters had a bad habit of shedding their rear wheels by pulling the center out of the wheel. By "center", I mean the area immediately around the lug nuts. That plate was held against the wheel by the hub retaining nut on the axle. It reinforced the wheel and prevented side loads from being transferred to the lug area.
Thanks! I wonder is this is why the WIDE 5 Ford wheels became popular with stock cars and some Sprint Cars? Bob
Fred's brother Jimmy is a good friend of mine. He shared his scrap book, & told me some interesting stories about them being Japanese and racing this car after the war. Jimmy was a very successful drag racer, running one of the best Jr Fuel dragsters in So Cal in the late 60's / early 70's.
Thanks need louvers! Do you know what magazine issue those yellowed photos came from? One of my earliest auto hobby things was cutting out those two photos and the others in the Popular Mechanics type magazine Dad had in his shop. Still have the scrapbook, but the glue on the tape dried out many years ago. Bob
