It has been a while since there was an update on this thing. We should be fixing that soon.

Race season hit in June for us... I could start a whole other thread on just the shit be broke in the Hand Grenade leading up to the Meltdown in July. Plus new gears and tuning into the Abomination.

Here's the best I can do for an update that is worthy of a picture. We have been tooling up to get back into the coupe. Lincoln TIG welder and we finally have our new/old lathe wired in a working. It's a 1948 with a variable speed motor. I have a pile of tap tube and chassis parts to weld to something on this car. I will post updates when they look like something.

Well, the project is well under way again. The car is now in a bunch of pieces all over the garage and stripped to a bare frame for sandblasting, which I did today. Lots of work to do on the frame now and lots of updates will be posted.

With my dad out in Colorado hunting, I thought it was a perfect time to tear his car apart and sandblast the frame, since the weather Saturday was 65 and partly cloudy... and probably the last day like that this year since we're in Illinois. A friend gave me a hand and we took it down to the frame Friday.

    Only a brief undated here.

With the frame stripped it really shows all the ... not up to par... work done on this chassis over the years.

Man.. That lathe is cool. I've had a huge hankering for a mill lately but I shouldn't be looking at them because I don't have the space. Argh.

I'm starting with just cleaning up whats there. The 4 link brackets, drive shaft loop, and rear crossmember will all come off or getting replaced.

A little metal finishing will make it look more presentable. The running board brace holes were welded shut at some point. Fortunately, it was done poorly and it wasn't difficult for me to redrill the holes in the correct locations. I TIG welded some nuts in the frame for the bolts to thread into.

Thanks. It works a lot better than my old Logan did and can do more things. The guts of it are straight out of "Metropolis." I agree... a mill would be nice.

We did have the car out at the track parked for the 2012 Meltdown Drags back in July. I think it looks pretty good with 4 port Hilborn. The Hilborn isn't staying though.

I am sure you have already said it before in this thread, but What are the Carbs you guys are using? They are the same ones on the High rise as well as the blower? Yes? Awesome build! Love it!

They're US Royal 560-15 from Coker.

It will remain unchopped, but with a custom visor brow to mimic a Pierce Arrow.

They are old Carter AFBs. Not really sure what they came off of or even what cfm. We are keeping an eye out for a pair of old Carter Competition series 750 cfm carbs. I've had good luck with them on my Henry J.

  25. If you saw the skull here, look at post #106, bottom photo. Looking thru the coupe's windshield, you can see the silhouette of a man's head sitting in the driver's seat of the Henry J. There's some freaky things going on in that garage, man!

What you're seeing is proof that our cars are possessed. The 55 was wrecked and the Henry J has a bullet hole in the window.

A bullet hole, when did that happen? How did the 55 get wrecked? I loved that car.

Haha. Yeah, neighborkidswillys is right. It's not really a bullet hole. There's a round chip in the drivers side quarter window where it was shot with a BB gun years ago. The 55 was wrecked in a previous life. The driver side quarter was replaced at some point and probably the door too. It must have really gone for a ride since the front A arm was bent, there's a dent or 2 in the frame rail and the floor was all wrinkled up. It was all repaired before we ever got the car. We suspect it's an angry car and that's why we've experienced the carnage we have.

Both cars are still VERY alive!
