This is our latest project. A 1930 model a coupe. The car was brought to Illinois by my brother who purchased it from a guy in California who started the build. While continuing the project by repairing the body, we gave the car much thought, and began to take it in a different direction.

After buying himself a new home, my brother gave the coupe a new owner, my father. We plan to tear back into this thing this winter, but here are some pictures to show its direction. We are still unsure of the final motor combination. The car will be a street strip car much like our others.

And yes, we plan on calling it the "Freakin' A"

Just don't look right! Let me see if I have some steel wheels with dry rotted bias plys and a frozen up flathead. I'll just trade you out of that race crap. Always willing to help out.

Are you going to document this build? It would be great if you did!

That's the intention of this thread. I just uploaded some of the pictures we took a couple years ago as my brother, dad, and I were working on the car.

Here are some pictures of the car when my brother purchased it in California. Getting loaded on its way to Illinois.

February of 2008. A lot has changed with this car since then, including owners.

YES! It's got that '60's look to it, even the rear tire over hang. Just paint it and reupholster it.

Here is where we are at with the project. A lot of the metal work has been done. The body needs a new wood kit, floors, and firewall work. We plan to move the engine back another 2 inches.

We have a running '69 350 to use to get it going along with a cool vintage weiand tunnel ram. The transmission is a brand new TCI TH350. The trans came with the car. We installed a bronco 9 in. ford with new 31 spline strange axles.

The magnesium wheels and tires that are on the rear in the picture are actually the drag wheels for my Henry J. We have another pair of 15x10 mags for the coupe that need tires.

The blower motor in the pictures is what my brother was building for the car. The motor needs just a few things to be finished, but we aren't convinced that this car and the parts backing it are the best platform for this motor. So we are likely to stash it away with my Hydro Stick trans for a different project. but this has yet to be decided.

I am looking forward to seeing more as the build progresses, and based on how the previous cars have turned out (I really liked the Hand Grenade),this one is sure to be a beaut.
I've got to ask ,with a name "freakin' A" is it getting panel paint and freak drops???
    Cheers RM

Really cool, the before is often the after on many of these A builds so it is nice to see it going in this direction.

  30. The cal custom scoops really look cool but they greatly hinder the performance... but I'm willing to trade you some performance enhancing stickers for them...
