Frank Maratta eventually cut that car up. Story goes the lead used in the build was melted and sold for scrap all 40 pounds or so of it!

I remember going to the show when it was in Hartford CT in the early 60s. One time it was in a big snow storm and a few of us went together in fellow car club member Ray B. corvair, all traffic was stopped but the rear engine corvair plowed on, well on a few hills we had to give it a push. Those were the days...

In the "Cool Cars/ Square Roll Bars" book they said when the "Mystery" car was dismantled, Frank filled a 55 gallon drum with lead ( which he scrapped for $11.80 ) A bit more than 40# I think!!

Sorry for bumping an old thread , I know the pink Frank Maratta '40 Merc was the cover car of August 1957 Rod & Custom. I have seen the car referred to as "Maratta's mystery" , but apparently it had some other name , which was mentioned in the R & C feature .
Any idea what the name was ?
