Did any cars with M20, M21, M22 come with a four on the tree configuration? I searched a bit, but couldn't find much. My memory fails me, but I could have sworn some cars had it?

  2. Some did. SAAB, Volvo and a couple other, similarly European makes.
Did any of these have a Muncie in them?? Doubt it.
Could the linkage be adapted?? Dunno.

I have seen at least one conversion changing a 3 on the tree to a 4 on tree. Reverse was a lever on the floor. This was back in the 70s I seem to remember he said it was not the hard to do.

  4. Don't think so. "Three on the tree" and "Four on the floor" just sound right. I don't think any good American car company would go over that line.

  5. You can adapt three on the tree to four with a floor lever or pull cable for reverse.
Just be sure it's in neutral before you try for Reverse.

And apparently I need to type faster.

True, including the '58 Simca, pull way forward for reverse, otherwise up-down-up-down...needed all four speeds to get out of its own way with about 40 hp...

  7. yeah FORD did it,I had a 64? econoline long wheelbase van back in the 70s and it was a 4 on the tree what a SOB to adjust ,dont remember what the tranny was,,,,,,,,,,kinda cool tho

Nope. No North-American built cars ever came with 'four on tree'. Four
speed shifters were/are always floor-mounted . The only car I've ever
    actually seen with a 4-speed column shift set-up was a '1950's-something'
Mercedes sedan that a neighbor used to have.

Looking through some old books. (posting it for posterity)

    Chevrolet Van 1968 - 1969 - 1970

Had the option of a Borg-Warner T10 4 Speed that was a column shift.

Had a friend with a '67 Mercedes, four on the tree. Was in the car when he outran a '65 Impala with the 396...you should have seen the look on the Impala's driver when he was getting left behind by a 4 door sedan!
