I don’t really have enough pictures of the rest of the cars to do it justice

If people are entertained by your cars sitting in front of a restaurant, then they would surly like anything you post about projects you have done, are doing or projects in the future. I even liked your pieced together license plate you did for the A- Brothers clone. Your Lawnmower thread has to high on most people`s list of favorite threads.

Thanks Mark. You accomplished something that every last one of us, at some point, have fantasized about, but not had the guts to undertake! KUDOS!!

  7. I didn't realize "Futurian" was your original work Mark. Great read! Even better than your lawn mower thread. I guess good things happen to good people.
Maybe you could drag out a few more "build" type photos and share them with us? "Inquiring minds want to know".

Thanks man, Sorry, no pics of the manifold. what I did was machine the top of a stock intake flat, then weld a 1/2' aluminum plate to it. I cut off the front part where the thermostat goes and made it a separate water crossover.

  12. You could use a Rover intake. I have all the pieces cut and now need to wire up my spool gun to my MIG. No blower though...Small plenum, long runners..... Putting it in a radical custom 63 'Bird...another tribute to Ed...

Mark, after you ground the fiberglass (and stopped itching) & applied some bondo, did you use'flowcoat' on top, over the filler?

Flowcoat? do you mean Gelcoat? On the futurian I did not, but on my trike I did gelcoat over the bondo and before the primer. I wish I would have done the car that way too. The gelcoat holds out all the sand scratch swelling. If you think about it the entire body was glopped out of a can. If I had it to do over I would certainly gelcoat it and you should do yours. finish the Bondo to 180 grit, apply gelcoat and block sand it, I used 180 on it on the trike. If you break thru you should re coat it. then prime and block as normal

Cheers Mark, that's how I thought I should finish mine.
Was thinking it would prevent blemishes from filler shrinkage.

Sure it's referred to 'flowcoat' here in the UK.
Basically, just the resin on matting, can't remember if it's with or without the wax ingredient.

when using gelcoat in a non mold situation, there has to be wax in it or it will not harden correctly

@Moriarity Thank you for sharing all the build photos!
I completely understand not wanting to smell gas and have oil drips in your living room. Yet, I don't know how in the heck you can contain yourself enough to not go tearing around in it at least once! The looks you'd get out on the street alone would be priceless.

I have a great deal of self control I guess... I have plenty of other cars to drive. One thing about this car, no vin, no title, no insurance ,my insurance co. doesn't want to touch it. they say because it is not a manufactured car and I built all of it , they can't guarantee it is safe and therefor they won't insure it. and yes I have checked with Hagerty and Grundy and all of those places. So I will have to be happy just having it. Maybe someday I will get it running, but I am in no hurry to do so..

Mark, you are truly an Artiste. Maybe you can't draw, but you have vision and a heck of a Sculptor! What kind of project is next? Maybe you could do some Moriarity "How- To" books and inspire the next generation. Imagination is a wonderous thing, Carp.

I think a "how to" book is a great idea. It could be like glass body building for dummies. Do you think you could just do step by step pictures captioned with your experiences and ideas. I bet there would be a lot of guys who would buy it.

Also, can you get it done before next month when I start my C cab.:)

Doing a book would be a good excuse to start another project.

  25. Fantastic creation. One thing you find out doing something like this is all it takes is sticktoitiveness. One hour at a time, one day at a time, one part at a time. Development of character is the biggest benefit you end up with amazingly.

what helped me keep going is the fact that I sent early construction pics to Jerry Weesner at Custom Rodder magazine and he printed them! I figured that if people knew that I was building it I had to keep going, If I would have kept it secret it would have been way easier to quit....
