Ryan, the '55 Chevy is so cool, if I were to set out to build a tri-five I believe I would use this car as a template, the stance, the flames & the moon disc imply that what we have here is a simple hot rod that has a look that is timeless and the builder did a fantastic job. HRP
Nosed and decked, tuck and roll, louvers, flames, pinstripes, white walls and moons, she's got it all goin' on...
I may be wrong, but the first photo... isn't that the bobbed hemi T that still survives? It was kept in a container for years, Hot Rod Deluxe did a feature/cover story on it.
That’s what it’s often referred to as but Tony LaMasa was the owner. Ozzie just about had a stroke when Ricky wanted to buy it for $3000.
I was hoping the source of these photos would speak up… they were printed at a photo lab in Compton, CA in 1958 and I think 1960. I could have sworn a HAMBer sent them to me, but they could also be from Bob Roddick.
Can't get too excited over the '55... but that Ardun powered T of Scotty's Muffler Service is where it's at!
Bitchin pictures, I love old pictures, I have a pile of vintage car show photos, I am the one that forwarded you the sporty car pictures I found on eBay. I just want to make sure that everyone gets the chance to be as buried in stuff as I am!!!
The 55 checks every box on the cool list! I'd guess that it had a souped 283 and 4 speed. Looks to be pictured at Pomona. I'm fairly sure the Tony Lamasa Roadster was photographed under the circus tent at the Disneyland car show on 9/5/59 (exactly 65 years ago). Somewhere (maybe on the HAMB?), I saw a collection of photos of other top notch rods and customs taken under the tent. That doesn't explain the photo date of 9/57 but that may have been a typo by the photo lab which occasionally happened. http://kustomrama.com/wiki/Disneyland_Car_Club_Day_and_Autocade http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-disneyland-car-club-day-and.html
I like old pictures so much that I started a couple of threads for scanned pictures only, no downloads, you had to have the real (paper) pictures to post them.. here they are, one for square and one for rectangle photos https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/3x3-square-photo-thread.1167650/ https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/vintage-rectangular-photo-thread.1168077/
I hate to tell you this Ryan, but now you're gonna have to scan all the other photos you have and share them... Love the history in these photos. It just seems more real when it's shown in this format.
Prints don’t have an infinite shelf life. They deteriorate over time and I need to get em scanned and saved for sure. Gonna set a schedule and do a few every week. About collecting… I have a shit ton of prints, but no real interest in actively collecting more. Actual negatives on the other hand? I’d run over my own mom for that shit… Negatives are the holy grail of modern history… to me anyway.
@Ryan , You don't strike me as a procrastinating fellow, but if you set the scanner and shoebox up where every time you go by it would take very little to do 10, it might help. The big guy I think I've read about here before. Massive hands, very strong and a part of a local team that did well. Can't remember who or where, though. Here's a thread on the car. https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/scottys-muffler-service-dragster.433700/
