Technical FOUND MY EXHAUST LEAK

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by anthony myrick, Mar 8, 2018.

  1. the bus started making a bad exhaust leak noise a couple months ago
we checked and tightened them up. still had a noise
the headers were wrapped and also used to break in the engine, we couldn't see the cracks
finally decided to replace them with vette manifolds
found this when we unwrapped them
    looks like they got hot.

Wrap traps moisture against the tubes. Dirt guys found that out real quick when it first came out. Wash the car, trap the moisture, buy big buck headers again in the same season you put them on. Might be fine in a place without moisture.

  9. I can understand headers rusting. But those look like they were crushed. Like ya bend something back and forth to break it in half.

  10. they were used to break in the engine
those things we glowing orange from B-ham Al to half way across Georgia
they had a slip on collector, it kept slipping back and dropping down a couple of times
its also in a 6500 pound bus, those things get hot

looks like Frieberger got to them on TV

  12. I had headers wrapped once. The long front tubes collapsed in on themselves like they were smashed. Number one cylinder tube almost totally choked off. Took close to ten years and 50k miles though.
