Picked this old hammer up today. It's old and I'm looking for some info on it. It works. I know it's a blacksmith hammer but not much more than that. Only tag on it is a round y badge.
Hey, Your hammer looks like the work of a very skilled blacksmith! That's not ment as a dig, only that its' intended purpose was for working hot iron, not sheetmetal.
Yep, no depth to it. Hard to form much other than reveals, channels etc. Really cool old machine though. I'd take it just to have it sit there and look cool.
Greetings! You are correct, that is an antique blacksmith power hammer, if you ever intend to do any blacksmithing, you need to get "The complete modern blacksmith" by Alexander G. Weygers, it is an amazing book, well worth your time and money, is sometimes available at local libraries. Best of luck with your new tool.
That would be the hit of a hit or miss engine show! Best toy that I'v seen on this site so far, now you HAVE to get it running. Video needed!
It's pretty well built if its a homemade machine. That y badge made me wonder if it was a manufactured hammer or a kit of some sort.
That is just an awesome find. Is your plan to get it working and use it or just for a cool piece to look at? Very cool
maybe not the most practical , but one of the coolest old tool finds posted in awhile , id just set it in the corner as art and let it look awesome ,
I'm just going to stare at it for awhile. Put a different motor and flat belt drive on it mabe. It was an impulse buy.
I would have bought that in a minute. Possible injuries? Ths is a little before OSHA got involved, but all the new ones I have seen are pretty similar....sometimes you just need to be careful.
