Hot Rods Found an old Bantam coupe drag car anybody recognize?

  4. Very cool find, and it looks better with the front end brought back down. That orig high front was some scary engineering.

    I checked with the club that had a car like that and said the car looks similar but not theirs.

    Found it....... Island dragway 1961, best I could do with the pictures. The color picture is from Rich Venza. Looks like they changed the front end a few times lifting it higher as time went on.

    thanks for posting this thread...... gawdalmighty...i love those old shots of this car. please, restore it exactly that way, especially the version with the reversed smoothie Halibrands up front.


    IMO far too much of early history/look/feel of altered's is lost to the ideal of what became of them in the end (and sadly; what most car guys know of altered's), another generic funny car chassis with a formless blob of a fiberglass body "sort-of" resembling a Fiat or a Bantam. faster, sure; but also just more of the same as drag racing grew more professional with each passing year

    these early cars were as different and as distinctive in character as the folks who built them. no formulas, just ingenuity

    That's a wicked looking ride, crazy headers! Love the old Bantams. Would like to find one with history. Had this one but sold last yr.
