nope, still waiting on the motor, its a long story, i run a machine shop and could have done the motor my self no problem, but he wanted his old buddy that builds flatheads to build it, so of course thats what happened, needless to say it took him 8 months to find out it cracked, so instead of getting another block he wanted to fix the original, so we got him in touch of another slow old timer (but does excelent work) to get it welded, well he didnt want to weld it so he wanted to sleeve all 8 cylinders, so thats what they are doing, and its taking for ever, but hopefully soon. as far as the other stuff goes, i had him buy a new tank (old one was smashed and full of crap). the brakes will only take a day to do, i have a machine shop/auto parts store at the tip of my fingers 24 hours a day 7 days a week (i have the keys!). i have most of the other stuff to get it going laying around, i know there will be some surprises but were ready for that, i know enough people and have enough junk laying around to get us through and trouble we run into. so hopefully well have it ready for the reunion in septmeber! oh, 56kustom, its not the dust and dirt thats cool, its the fact that the car hasnt been touched since 1964 ish, does that make more sense to you? cause i love seeing a dusty old car on a trailor, making its comeback. titus
i've heard of these "there out there" stories, but never in my part of the country! thats awsome. ncg
what kinda block is he running in the pic??think ive seen one like it in our closet!!great story titas...liked the video of it too!!!
Sounds like it would be a good idea to locate a running engine that could be dropped in so he can make the reunion and switch back to the original later. Sounds like a hassle but September is right around the corner.
Updates? I saw it sitting in the pole barn when I was out at your place late this fall, but after reading this post (for the first time) I'm wondering what the status of this car is . . . would be so cool to see it at the 50's!
Funny, how these kind of stories turn into a "Payton Place" soap opera on the Hamb. Watched the Mad Fabricators version of the story just a few weeks ago, and I must admit, it has made me think twice about getting rid of my first car. Had it since 10th grade/November 1979. May drive it to the 25th reunion this spring. BTW...we already did a thread ,on whom still has their High School cars. Was amazed at the responses. Titus, you are one cool Kat for helping out this old dude. I wanna party with you! LOL JT
That right there......every shop owners dream. Well...except for the stuff taking forever to get done part.
This thread reminds me of a joke my old man used to play... He'd say "Wanna know how to keep an asshole in suspense?"... Then he's walk out of the room...
