I have realized recently that finding the correct fuel tank for my '57 Pontiac Safari 9 passenger was a tall order. Only 11,000 units made. I was about ready to cut sheetmetal and fit a tank that was more available. Yesterday on fleebay I found the unit. I see now why they do not reproduce these. The tank (I bought) is 30" long. It is 8"x11" at one end. It is 13"x11" at the other. Because of the 3rd row seat, the floor dips down some. $100. Has some repair on one corner. That's OK. There was another item on the flee that was listed as 1957 Pontiac steering wheel. I almost bought it. Looked right in the pic. Outbid. So I drove the '55 Chieftan down to Salinas Friday, and found a correct 1957 Safari steering wheel with horn ring for a good $.(80) It fits perfect and I saw that the fleebay wheel was not correct for this year. Now I will have to learn how to restore the wheel. Plastic from 1950's, good for maybe 50 years. Unlike todays' plastic, good for 500 years. I feel I am lucky to find these parts. They are out there.
I know there are not many who are working with these wagons. But if I had seen a picture of the tank it would have helped me know what I was dealing with. Thought I would add a pic so as to maybe help out anyone trying to find one.
