Technical FORD TRUCK PEOPLE - who can identify for me...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by theloosecannon707, Apr 2, 2017.

  1. Hello there,

    I had 1 hub on my 64 ford f100.

I bought 4 new ones online from Vintique. They indicated 61-65 ford truck.

They fit on my rear two wheels and not my front two wheels because of the axle extending out too far.

So the one old one I have does fit, But I don't know is what it's from! It looks like maybe the 4x4 version or something, I don't know....

I want to get 4 of those so they match and fit on the rig...

    Any ideas?

Maybe your wheels are a different year than the truck??? I didnt realize the caps still snapped "in", in that year verses "over" nubs...... would a shorter dust cap over hub/spindle help any or maybe a spacer behind the wheel to bring it out further????(I dont really like spacers but have used them.)
Got any pics of the caps you bought? This will at least give you a bump anyway.

BTW, you're talking hub caps, not hubs.

If thats your truck. Those are the right wheels for those caps. The 66-91 took the outtie cap. 61-65 takes the innie caps. Take a close up of your rims.

Nevermind i think you got the wrong caps. I believe those fit 53-60 ford trucks.
    These are 61-65 hubcaps

  7. given the topic I think most people understand what I am referring to, lol

  8. The ones I bought, are the same as the one you posted, but doesn't fit.

The one I posted is the one I need to know what it came from so I can get a full set.

Is anyone familiar with the rusty one?

Maybe the 57 to 60 rims were made slightly different even tho they have the same bolt pattern and thats what you have on your truck being you had that cap on it or maybe you have 57 to 60 hubs on it???
*Will the caps you bought fit with the "hub bearing dust cap" off?*
(maybe you can get a shorter one that will still work)

Maybe a better response would have been something like.."Oh, yeah...thanks...I meant hub cap, sorry for the confusion. I'll try to correct my thread title".....words mean things.....a 'hub' is a different part than a 'hub cap'.

I think the dust cover cap over the front hub nut is too big or not all the way in.

  13. maybe, maybe not. maybe you're a little too sensitive. maybe you have too much time on your hands if your just going around trying to mom people.

  14. that's my opinion as well, I think I can get by with it off. I will need to do some measurements, but its a good idea.

I would not run with out them. When the hub gets warm that grease can flow out. They are sheet metal and can be persuaded flat a little with a hammer.
Yours may be generic parts store dust caps. Maybe some new ones are in order.

I figured you would reply with another deflection.....would you be satisfied if a merchant decided his version of a 'pound' or a 'gallon' was 'close enough' when your are paying by weight or measure? Same principle applies to many things, including language.

  17. To your knowledge do they vary in size? Because I could make one with less grease space, and maybe help clear the wheel cap? Also if I find a set of these 57-60 then I would just run those and call it good.
