Ford small block V8 question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fat ASS Whitewalls, Feb 25, 2004.

  1. What needs to be done, when changing from an automatic to a stick shift, to keep these engines in balance. Does the harmonic balancer and the flywheel have to be changed as a set? It's a 302 automatic form a late 80's van. Thanks, Dean

No - not as a set. But there are two imbalance factors as implied by a/fxcomet. Early engines (until '83?) used 28oz & later engines used 50oz. Just be sure to get the correct one for your year engine - your harmonic balancer will be fine...

My 2001 Ford Racing catalogue (like that [IMG] ?) says that the 50oz is used on 1981 and later motors, and that the 28oz is used on pre-1981 motors. But you'll be fine, cause you said it was a late '80s motor.

  5. Thanks guys. The engine is from a 82 ford van. Dean

50 oz. will do the job on late 80s.
