The former owner of my falcon told me the motor was a 170", and at first glance all of the small sixes look pretty much the same to me. But i just noticed that the block has five freeze plugs, and i was under the impresion that only the 200" motors had five. can any HAMBers help? thanks.

    200's had 5 freeze plugs, 144,170's had 3. Sounds like you have a 200.

There are unconfirmed rumors of a seven-main 170 block...

You never know what you have with 144 & 170s. It was very common when a customer found a car he liked but it had say a 144 and he wanted a 170 for it to get an overnight engine swap consisting of a change from blue to orange valve cover & air cleaner. I was there, ask me how I know ? :)

There were definitely some 7 main 170's in Australia, however most were 4 mains.
