An Australian dentist in the UK stuck this in his ex-rally Ford Cortina GT in 1964. My ancient pencil note says "300 cu.in. Chevy" but I am no longer sure. He also fitted a Jaguar XK150 tranny and rear axle. The old b/w photo is not too good, but I would appreciate any info.

Sure looks like a small block Chevy to me. Probably a 283” poked out to a 301”.

Tri-power SBC. That would be fun to drive, a great power to weight ratio!:D

Looks like a Chev V8. A 283 bored to the max gives 301 cu in. This was a "big" Chev before the 327 came out.

This required boring the 3.875" cylinder out 1/8 to an even 4". Giving a 4" bore and 3" stroke.

Chev small block V8s sure got put in a lot of different cars.

  7. At that point in time the small block Ford was longer than the Chevy (water pump and accessory ) and had a front sump oil pan that made swapping a challenge. As with the others the shape of the valve covers and distributor location scream out Chevy to me.

Thanks to all who replied so promptly and politely. This forum is outstanding --- so much knowledge and so much collegial help --- not like the shark tanks of some other automobile sites. Cheers.

It could just be the angle the photo was taken at but the valve cover length to width ratio looks off. Seems to be longer than normal.
