hey guys, i need some ford engine help. ive got a 68 302 factory short block the cylinder heads are legit 65 ford 289 hi po heads they have been milled.050 what would my compression ratio be? or could you tell me how much shaving the heads .050 bumps up the ratio. thanks
My guess it's around 10 1/2 to 1.The chart I have somewhere, when I did the same thing, indicated around that ratio.
It depends on the pistons. An original 68 302 would be 10+to 1 stock with flat top pistons.65 heads hipo or regular had 58cc heads so you should be pushing an honest 101/2 to 11 to 1 with flat tops. You do realize hipo heads are no differant than regular 65 heads except for the screwin studs and spring cups, same ports, valve sizes and combustion chambers.Watch your intake to head surface match and your pushrod length, and the clearance on the ends of the manifold to block.I'm no expert but have been building small block Fords for 43 years. ROY.
anyone know exactly how much shaving.050 off the head raises it over stock 289 hi po heads? like shaving them .010 = x amount of a compression point?
the other replies are about right....your OEM 302 cast pistons should have a dish with 4 valve reliefs...I'd say no more than 10.5-1, probably closer to 10-1.
i built a 302 with trw flattops with 65 hipoheads and the calculated ratio ended up at 11.07-1 with the pistons level with the block
bueller?,... bueller?............. anybody? just looked up the head and stock is supposed to be 54 cc. is this correct?
