Tomorrow I can tell more what will be price level.

  2. Cool. I have seen old aluminum oil pans for flatheads but not very often. I would think that they would sell well. Pictures help to sell a product, I'll be happy to see your pans when you have one done.

Might sell better if the casting is smooth enough to polish well and maybe a few fins on the sides to mirror finned heads.

French Flathead's came with aluminum pans, though painted, and they look better polished. SoCal Sacramento sells them.

I do not have any preplan for starter mounts. I need his opinion when I go to see him (Old man who makes casting). He has 50years experience. I have increased original steel pan 2% all way. I want to have some cooling rips (i do not know how to say it, but maybe you understand) going thru from front to end of pan. Also want that there is one wall with holes front of oilpump pick up. Its easy install there "mousewrap door" on it.

Is it ok, if starter mounting is original?
I like original or original style sterter.

Is there now an aftermarket flathead starter with a conventional drive? (other than that @#&%^$ Bendix) that bolts onto the flathead pan like the original?

If there is, that would be a real perk for the aluminum pan...like a whole 'package'.

Will the fins be on the sides or the bottom?

Watch the position of the drain plug:
There was an aluminum finned SBC pan that had the plug on the side, (left side)
My son had one on his roadster, drove slowly over a speed bump, and the plug bolt actually 'rolled over' the top of the bump, and unscrewed itself!
Son Rich was quick to jump out and grab the plug, screwed it back in before he dumped all the oil...
True story. I asked him how he knew it came out...he said it wasn't the first time!
He eventually welded up the drain hole and bored and tapped another one in the middle.

I'm interested in an aluminum flathead pan also.

Check out Don Oroscos site for his version of the early block (59 AB) oil pan. Very pricey!

I have note that Flathead Jack and Don Orosco have those oilpans in their product range.

I try to get first pans from production during 1-2month.
Also interested in to get retail price reasonable.
Quality is good. I know what he has done earlier for Saab automotive , Lancia B-group Rallycars etc.
He cast also wheels to Juha Kankkunen´s (ex. Rally world champion) A-ford (introduction in Hot Rod Magazine). Rally car technology A-ford (BDA,...) . Wheels look like original wood spoke wheels, but those are cast alum.,.....

  18. Those wheels were impressive on the Model A with Cosworth rally car engine in it. Total sleeper, I think your project is in good hands. Curious to see the results of our oil pan as well.

    Today I started oilpan Project.
Not need to fit all sheetmetal 100%, because pan need to increase putty 4-5mm.

Don't forget to add a little length before you get those sides all welded up pretty. It'll shrink about 3/16 inch per foot. Not sure how many mm's that is. Might want to add a bit to the flange width as well, especially at the wide spots around the bellhousing.

What are you going to do for the vent? If I was making them, I'd fill that front vent and add a bolt-on vent to the side of the pan wall.

  23. Why not model it after the truck pan?

Truck pan looks good, but I do not have any. I have even never seen oilpan like that.

You´r correct. Need to increase oilpan 1,5% all ways. Vent need to bolt on.
Oil stick bracket need to be bolt on model too.
Its terrible job to get this "model pan" ready and all need to be done like "tappered" (turned little inside). Then its possible to make easy 2-piece mould.

I like Don´s oil pan with all special Fins etc. , but that kind of oilpanneeds 4--6piece mould and it costs very much. I try to make this with reasonable production costs and then retail price is reasonable too.

90% welded. Need to make Fins (3-5pc) and 1-2 wall inside of the pan.

After that putty, putty and little more putty.

    Thank You Sirs.
Looks better every day, but its same with Project hot rods. First looks "endless labour camp", but after long dirty job period all comes ready fast.

Need to putty inside too, but only welds.
I welded inside fat washer on that Place where oil plug thread will be located. Outside I cut center fin from that area.
    Fins are protect oil plug.

Im order oil pump pick ups and oil stick mounting brackets and fit + drill all on their Place.
Those must include every oil pan deal. Splash apron is higher than original and there must also make holes and notch for oil pick up tube.

While he is make castings, I need to produce templates (I do not know right word for this,..) for drilling all holes.
Aluminum oilpan is shrink 1,5% so all holes need to fill now,.

    Interesting Project.
