Just wondering if a 1951 pickup box will work with 1949 fenders. And are 1949 running boards the same as 1951. Thanks.......
The bed sides are different. '48-'50 had a relief, which means the fenders were notched to fit. '51-'52 bed sides are flat, as are the fender mounting flanges. Don't know about running boards being the same, I am sure someone will pipe up.
I do realize that the 48 thru 50 pickup box are different, but will the early style fenders from a 49 fit on a 51-52 Box, without any major modification. Anyone else.......
Yes they will fit but they will not fit flat...Your 49 fenders have a step in them...where they bolt to the bed....Late 50 and 51-52 bed sides were flat...as in ...no step...
I have the opposite problem with mine. I have a 51-52 fender on a 48 box. The lower part of the fender has a sizeable gap from where the bump-out ends. I would have to assume you would have the opposite problem where you'd have a gap along the top of the fender against the bed. Maybe you'd be able to fill that gap with welting, or you could cut the stepped out part of your fender and weld it back in if you're handy.
The running boards will work but some of the early ones had an extension that ran lengthwise and attached to the frame. They were about 6 inches wider. I had one of each on my 48 but cut the extension off to match the 2nd (newer) board. The early fenders would have a 1/2" gap all around the top edge of a 51-52 box where the bedsides pop out on the 48-50 style. You can see the raised panel on the fenderless truck.
