Okay, I just had a brain fart regarding the part number for the kinda oddball C4 bellhousing that can be used to mate a 429/460 engine to the more dimunitive Ford auto tranny!

The bellhousing was used in applications where a 351-400M was equipped with a C4 trans from the factory, but since 429/460 engines also use the same bellhousing bolt pattern as a 351-400M, the part can be used to mate a cheap and light C4 to the new series big block.

Anyone remember the part number for this piece? I used to know it by heart, but it's been a few years since I've needed that info, so it slipped away in the fog!

Talking to Beatnik the other night planted an interesting idea in my mind... [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    A friend has a 460 & C-4 in a 1978 Fairmont. A peppy little car.

I'm putting a 460/C4 in my 31 coupe. I'm using the same 351M/400 bell. You will need a pan-fill C4 trans, and the appropriate torque converter with the 11 7/16" flexplate bolt pattern. Use the stock 460 flexplate. Be aware that you may need to add a second engine-to-trans spacer plate (mine required two). If you don't have enough depth, you'll bust the trans pump.
