I picked up a ford bell housing yesterday thinking it was a Y-block car bell but after comparing it to the Y-block truck bell that I have it appears to be something else. The bell to engine top mounting holes measure 5 7/16" center to center and the bottom mounting holes measure 15 1/2" center to center. bell housing is stamped F-6394-A and has 66 in the bottom left.

Heres the bell in question to the right of a y block truck bell

    Thanks for the help

Definitely not flathead. Looks like pre-'65 FE (332-427) Ford. :)

This one is from 63 Galaxie with a 406, I think V/8 Bob is correct. 332 thru 428, the starter location is far too high for a flathead.

    How about a 223 6 cyl

  7. The numbers say it's for a 66 Galaxie. From the trans mount holes I'd say an early 66 or a 6 cylinder car.

Did you take that bell off a y block or were you told it was y block bell? Im pretty sure you have a 49-53 ford v-8 flathead bell, those two ridges on top give it away. I have a 1961 292 y block and the mounting holes are far more spaced out than that bell housing. I've had earlier Y blocks but cant remember if the mounting holes for the bell housings were different in the earlier years, I remember them always being the same.

Those 60's Galaxie ones are slightly different than the one I have. heres another pic the mounting holes by the clutch fork are different and the starter looks close but also looks a little different too.

  10. I got it from a friend of mine who told me it was for a Y block. I just wanted the clutch fork so I never questioned him. I could be wrong.

Definitly not Y-block. Looks to be '52-'53 F/M flathead.

The top two FE mount holes are more like 6" apart so it isn't that.

  13. I cant tell you what it fits but I can tell you the part number

    Its part# C2TZ 6392 A OR C2TZ 6392 B

Its for a 1962 Ford Truck.

This is based on the cast 6394 and cross referenced in the Ford MCR

Ford light trucks, starting in '53, began using the bell housing as a rear engine/trans mount, and have mount "ears" cast into them. The bell in question is not truck.

  15. Correct. And also the trans bolt pattern is for a car type 3 or 4 speed.
I think it is a 6 cyl bell (223).....will check one I have today and compare.
