If I have a 28 spline open 9 inch Ford rear and wanted to swap out the center section to a posi set up,will I have to change the axles?? I have never done this but someone told me that the axles are different. Are they the same,or different?
28 splines axles are just that ... 28 splines ... no difference ... Ford also made 31 and aftermarket has 35 and 40 spline count.
So...no different axle lengths for open or posi?? A posi center chunk will work with non posi axles??

Deuce Roadster: Thanks for the link, lots of info. Squirrel: Thats what I thought but was not sure. Thank you both.
just rember to put the left axel or driver side in first that side of the posi has 2 sets of splines if you put the right in first or pass side and if your posi is good and tight you could miss aline the clutch hub and the side gear on the left side and some times it is a nightmare to aligne them up in the car good luck.
It's been implied here, but not stated outright - you need a 28-spline limited slip unit. From the factory, you could get 28 or 31 spline axles & differentials to match - make sure you get a 28-spline limited slip center section..
