Well my 64 F-100 needs and Axle and I was doing research to order a set, and the Brake Offset is not Jiving with all the Info. I've seen so Far so I figured I would ask. List and published Offsets Listed are for 2 3/8" and 2 1/2" offsets. But my Axle is 2" Brake Offset because my backing Plate is Built in 1/2" offset, So what the Hell. If I buy Axles with a 2 1/2" Offset I'm a 1" gain on the Track width. What am I missing here?

It's bearing offset, not backing plate.

Bearing offset is measured from the outside face of the bearing to the outside face of the axle.

the older rears have real skinny brakes, and you need to order the axle specifically to work with that setup.

V8 Bob I understand were you measure from and it's 2", From face of Bearing to Wheel mounting surface or Face of Axle Flange.

With offset backing Plate is how they got the 2" Shoes to work, Drum thickness backing plate thickness = 2 1/2"

  8. I think I would just hunt down another old truck axle. Seems all the aftermarket stuff is made around the later model axle offsets.

Have you contacted Currie or Moser to have an axle made?

I was assuming you were aware that you'll have to either find an original axle, or have one custom made to fit. Off the shelf axles for other brakes won't work.

  11. I probably have an extra used axle if that helps at all.

  12. Get with Dutchman axle co. They are the only ones who make 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern axles and will custom make them for you. They have great ordering sheet that shows you how to measure out for the exact axle you need to have made.

there are other companies who will make axles with the truck bolt pattern. Guys build 4x4s, you know, and they need axles too.
