Im building a 390, and ive been trying to find a set of chrome valve covers. Ive been to checkers and napa and theyve searched all the books and cant find a single set of them. Is there anybody that sells these? The motor is a 1968 if that makes any difference. Will valve covers from a 400 427 428 429 460 fit a 390? Any help or lead is appreciated....................Briggs

Any FE valve covers should work (the most common FE sizes are 332, 352, 390, 406, 427 and 428).

Get a set of "Powered by Mercury" FE valvecovers off an old Merc in the junkyard and have 'em chromed, that'd be awesome...

429,460,351 valve covers will NOT fit a 390. What are you putting the motor in? J.C. Whitney has chrome covers for them, Cheap.

the car isnt going to be a traditional rod, just more of a resto-rod type deal. Its a 1968 ford galaxie 500 XL convert. Metallic green with black top and interior. Had a good running 302, but who wants a 302???????!! My ltd parts car had the 390 that im using. Itll be mild with just a cam and different intake (and hopefully chrome valve covers [IMG]) but itll be good enough for cruising...Briggs

  12. 390's came in a lot of Mustangs. If you want a sure source, check out Mustangs Unlimited (If you don't get the e-bay set)

  15. Hey briggs, I know a Ford guy around here that had a set of chrome valve covers for a 390. He wanted to sell them to me, but I liked the thunderbird ones on there. I think the dude only wanted 20 bucks for them, and I could get shipping for you cheap. Send me a PM if you still want a pair.

Don't forget about the Edsels. My buddy has a 64 427 that needed expensive 427 chromed vc. It seems the Edsel used the same cover only painted. A trip to the chrome shop saved some bucks over the "these are 427 VCs" gougers.

  18. Gah... I can't remember. I think they are new... he said they looked great. Sure thing though... if you dont' win that auction, I'll see him this Tuesday and I'll find out about them for you.
