Hot Rods Ford 272 versus 292 Y Blocks

    I thought I had posted this before but now I can't locate the thread, if indeed I did post it. Anyway, I'm wondering about the differences between the 272 versus 292 y blocks. I seem to recal it was merely a difference in bore size. Maybe different heads and whatnot. I may have a line on one to three blocks all 272s which I believe have already been re-bored. I may pick up one for a spare...o

    I believe you're correct. All 272s can be bored out and become 292s, I've always been told.
     
  4. The 272 is 3.624 bore the 292 is 3.750 bore only .125 larger both have the same stroke @ 3.300 the 272 block can easily take the bigger bore and 292 is much easier to get pistons and rings for.
