Anyone out there have any recomendations on a header for a 2.3L Ford? I know that Pacesetter makes one and possibly Hedman? I have quite a bit of room, so fitment should not be too much trouble.
Back in the 70s and 80s, lots of 2.3 Ford headers were available from various manufacturers. There were applications for Mustang II/Pinto, Fox based cars, Ranger pickups, and countless sandrail variations. Try Racer Walsh, Hedman, Hooker and circle track and/or dune buggy suppliers for currently available headers...or hit up e-bay for stuff left over from the 70s and 80s when these motors were at the peak of their popularity.
Easy enough to find! http://racerwalsh.zoovy.com/product...yl_7993_Mustang_Ford_230023L_Racer_Walsh.html
According to many north Carolina 4 cylinder stock car racers my son knows the passenger side header from a small block ford will bolt right up !I have not checked this out myself but I have made my own header from a passenger side small block chevy header by making my own flange plate
An update on this My son says it is the passenger side TUBE header from the 5 litre mustangs that they say to use again I have not had the chance to check this myself yet and I do not know if there are different bolt patterns for different heads.I personaly have only worked with pre 80 Pinto/Mustang 2.3
The tube header on 5.0 stangs is possibly the most restrictive exhaust component that ever resembled a hedder, and the first thing that 5.0 guys ditch. Since a 2.3 is half the size of a 5.0 and uses only one hedder, the same rules probably apply.
From the first 221W to the (the 302/5.0L is the same engine) to the last 351W they all have the same bolt pattern. The exhaust bolt pattern on the 2.3 is the same from 1974 untill the last ones made 2000. The Bore spacing on a Windsor is 4.380", on the 2.3 the bore spacing is 4.173", which also makes the exhaust port spacing different. If you want to learn all about the 2.3's from 1974 to 2000 click on the link in my signature below.
I think the one exception to this rule is the sbf GT40P heads. But I don't know if they will work on a 2.3.
If there from a FWD car they won't work, if there for the 71-73 pintos (the EAO European) 2.0 they won't fit either.
