    just curious,
how about some cool '33-'34 highboy roadster photos. one of my all time favorites was in hotrod magazine september 1979 owned by dick carroll of st louis missouri at the time. prior to that it was on the september 1960 hotrod cover as a b/street roadster. any body got any photos and additional info on this roadster.
    thanks. Al.

Dick still lives in St. Louis and still has the car. I think it a orange hiboy now. Maybe some body from St. Louis can put a picture on here.

This is Don Smalls car. Don lives in the LA area and is a real hot rodder. Bangers, flatheads, small blocks with 11 to 1 cr , Don has built them all. Don has put togrther many great cars over the years and always has a new one in the works.

When I got the car it had already been famous, named CONFUSION,winner of many races, cover of HOT ROD,car shows,NHRA records in B/street roadster as built by St Louisan Ed Fitzwilliam. He sold the car to build a twin engine blown dragster named MAYHEM. The car was abused in the next few owners, eventually ending up in a salvage yard.I got it in 70 and completed it in time for the 79 nats in St Paul. The car is mostly stock body with many hiboy style cues from DON WARDS [kessler] 32. 16 in American/dirt traks[now radials] 135/15 fronts ,454 /400/9". 40 column and wheel, lots of great memories and miles. Was in a tornado and hurracane Katrina. Not for sale. Dick

    dick,
so what engine and running gear was in the roadster in its racing days. i was not trying to buy your car. it has to stay with you. dont start me on the kessler/ward '32 highboy it was on of the reasons i went the USA this year to attend the GNRS to see it, i was dissapointed it was not there.
    thanks.

The engine in the CONFUSION roadster was a chev small block stroked to 340,algon injection,IskyLassalle trans,50 merc r/e.Later they went to a 4 speedand dual cone rochester injecter. There was a complete feature in HOT ROD titled 'a credit to the strip" in 59or 60 giving full detail. Dick

While this is a "new" car I think I managed to get that ol time look. Still not quite finished but driving and having fun. New steel body from Steve's Auto with a vintage Carson style top.

Lets bring this one back to life. Here is mine I just sold and now I want another one. Who is building/driving one? Terry Stoker finished mine and it now lives in CO.

Pretty sure we've got pics of your car in a dusty envelope somewhere, taken at an early Nationals. Is it a 33 or a 34? Did you run little-window Halibrands at one time as well? Smooth hood sides?

I get real excited when I look at the top on this car. It is right on the money for my taste. Here are a few more. I am going to build another one and keep it.

I was a very close friend of Ed & Susan Fitzwilliam back in the 60's & 70's. My job eventually took me out of St. Louis and eventually out of the country. If anyone knows what became of Ed, I would really appreciate a call. Jim Ramming 314-504-6673 jimramming@gmail.com

Hey Rags, not much progress in 4 1/2 years. Get stuck into it and get it running and driving.

Swifty........ Other priorities got in front of the 34 ............ The Shoebox that was originally built in 1956-58 had to get done first..... The Box will be back on the road come spring with a complete new drive line and wiring...

Local Show.jpg took had to be done first

This is my dad's, Richard Lacy, '34 roadster. He's owned it since '81 or '82. Bought it as a disassembled basket case out of a warehouse full of cars. Finally got it on the road in '02 as a fenderless stocker. In '04 we built it into a 40's hot rod.
