For ALL You FNG's...How'd You Find The HAMB?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by krooser, Jan 28, 2009.

  1. I was mining the net looking for a/fx funny car pics.

That linked me to the Altered wheel base pic thread. - Eureka!
Now I have learned more about cars and engines thanks to new terms found here and wikipedia

Like strokers is also a term in automotive circles!

I found it while searching for information. hell, i was an FNG the first 4 years. I used to read and watch only, because the real answer always seems to show up. I got tired of being ripped on for my "FNG" status by people that post: Welcome to the HAMB, what color should i paint my car?, what should i name my car? what wheels should i run on my car? That being said... I really appreciate the guys that are deep in knowledge on here. You guys are a true asset when sorting out issues. Thanks

I spend a lot of time at the keyboard. (computer tech). I was up late one night, dozed off and laid on the keyboard. When I woke up, here I was!!!:D

HaHA that last one was funny. Anyhow, a buddy of mine told me to check it out and now I own a 66 Buick, "that's not that bad". Except I overheard the neighbors complaining about it yesterday.:D

I found it back in the summer of 2004 while looking for parts and help fo my old GMC.
I joined in January of 2005. I'm right at the point of going back and forth from newbie and FNG. It all depends on how many of my posts and threads that get deleted. :)

Ok..I will post how I found this site.I had joined another site and was just starting to do a build when I kept reading that the guys on my forum kept coming over here and getting bashed for what they were saying...I thought.."What the hell kind of a site are they talking about and there SLAMMING people..?!?!?!?"Well I found what the H.A.M.B was about and kinda just lurked FOR a LONG time.I posted a few things but Ryan and I didnt hit it off so I got tossed from here."How dare they..!!" Well through the following months I realized...( never been on car sites,we always stood around talking about cars back in the day..)..that different sites have different people and those people dont build what the other people on other sites build.I learned to keep my mouth shut,or should I say" my keyboard quiet" and just start reading.Going through tech helped me SO much.I became hooked and jumped over here....I do post some strange crap, but hey..How and the hell ya going to learn if ya dont ask..???

I joined about 2 years ago and found it by looking for parts for my 27 roadster. I found a link while searching. I dont post much, just browse because usually whatever I can add has already been said or i'm just taking in all the different points of view from everybody. Everybody has alot of different ideas and experience with what ever im working on and its cool to come on here and see it all and learn some things. I've been around rodding since I was born with my dad and his buddys. Its really cool having this place to come too and talk with like minded people who love the car culture. About to Spray my 27 touring. Its my first paint job I'm spraying myself so we'll see how it goes!

I was doing a front engine dragster search and it sent me here to a post by King Chassis. Because of that I ended up going to the H.A.M.B. drags this year and that made my day, summer, and year! Now I'm hooked on the H.A.M.B.

Pretty sure I found about it from The Rodders Journal. My profile says I've been a member since 10/20/03

As my post count shows I don't post much, but I read a lot though.

I found it looking for technical info multiple times and ended up lurking for years. then finally joined. Never built rods for myself it was always for work. finally scavenging parts and getting ready to build for me. I want to build a pickup using a 5 window coupe for the cab (trunk removed and re sheeted to fit like a truck cab) Since i'm too tall for most truck cabs of the 20's-30's comfortably.

I would also be one that falls mostly under the 'Lurker' title, as anyone can see from the discrepancies between my posting and my join date. But back on topic.

I was introduced to the HAMB by a girl called 'Whiskey'(of Los Punk Rods fame) in a bar in Wichita called 'Kirby's Beer Store'. I was talking to her and some of her friends about their cars they had outside, and about my various projects and she told me to check it out.

I am glad I did. This is a great forum and community. Thanks to you, Whiskey.

I found this site looking for information on how to complete my car my self. Long and behold I had some long time friends on here. I don't post much because of my job in the military. Once I get the time I'll post more of my project the HAMBers have so graciously helped me with. The knowledge of traditional vehicles on this site is phenomenal! Big thanks to the HAMB and makers!

I've stumbled by the HAMB a few times looking for info. I spent a little time perusing the proverbial aisles and realized this was completely different from other forums and sites that start out with good intentions toward hot rods and end up taken over by too-young, know-nothing, broke, high school kids with Hondas with shopping cart handles and rattle-can racing stripes. I'm so freaking sick of it! The value of a for-real hot rod is grossly undervalued in an era of imported, sub-par sheet metal. My .02
