I know how that is. After I got the car home, I went through my 40 year collection of SR, and discovered that the boxes of that age were missing, gone in a previous "purge".

Our local welding supply store was shipping car or sports mags to the Military base that your loved one was at... I delivered over 1000 to them... not all mine... they told me to stop as the post office wouldn't give 'em a brake on cost...
.... maybe we should let the post office defend themselves...

What a difference the grinding, shaping, sanding and prime makes!
I want to comment on your ladder rack for running gear part painting...Brilliant!

My shop my wife built for me is metal structure, (3" tubing, ribbed sheet skin...) Nothing to hang stuff from, just my 8 foot fluorescent tube lighting! My ladders are hanging on the outside wall. Eureka!
You're close now, don't stop! Waiting patiently for the paint...

A trip to Detroit for Autorama meant no work this past weekend, but my wife found a copy of "Street Rodder" with the feature of the car, and I got lots of inspiration, especially from Clarks '34. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1488205555.235750.jpg

Every man needs to take a break and see what's going on in the real world! Checking out other's rides to get ideas and inspiration is what makes the build fun and interesting! Joe

Got the magazine with the roadster in it today, it's nice to have the issue. I had some out of focus photo copies, this is better.

I'm getting slower and slower. This brace (and the drivers side) took all day. It would have gone faster, but I spent at least 1/2 of the time in the shop looking for the Sharpie marker I just laid down right here...
I wanted to put the square tube brace in the door post itself, but there wasn't quite room to slide it in the (fiberglass) channel. So, it's screwed to the oak brace at the floor, the angle piece goes up the oak brace at the top of the cowl, just ahead of the cross-brace behind the dash. The column drop also hangs from that on left side. The cowl is MUCH stiffer now than it was. Made steel nut plates for the strikers and dovetails as well, it looked like the door post where those mount was just packed full off Kitty Hair, or a similar long strand 'glass filler. I ground the backs flat, the nut plate just rests on the door post. While I was at it, I elongated the holes for the strikers so there's a bit of adjustment now. There wasn't before, and the drivers door didn't close tightly enough at the cowl. All better now.
While I was welding, I made some little brackets that tie the package shelf and top bracket framing to the (steel) hinge post. That stiffened the posts up, there's no flex in the door post any longer.

Wheel adapters on the way to use the Chevy bolt pattern Astros, and/or the pretty Dayton knock-off wires. I've got 15" and 16" steel wheels too, so lots of wheel/tire options.

The frame is ready for color, and so are all the suspension parts. When drilling holes for the steel cowl bracing, I inadvertently drilled all the way through the oak bracing and up through the firewall. Oops. Same spot on both sides. There were some small holes in the firewall from the original build for an oil filter and coil that I hadn't noticed (it's all flat black) so I fixed all those too.
Hope to get the chassis in color tomorrow!

I know, right? And the smell of the lacquer based spot/glazing putty makes my shop smell like a hot rod shop should smell (although it'll probably give me cancer if I live long enough...).

Looking really good! What did you use for paint on the frame?

Nice move on the cowl brace, Brian... The lead-in for paint ('leed' in, not 'led' in!) is a great time to follow along. The block sanding, while no picnic, is always satisfying and anxious.
This will be a striking hot rod, '34 roadsters are like...'ultimate'.

...And, 'Yeah, what paint did you use on the frame?'

It's up on (2) wheels! Front axle in, my buddy Jake is helping me put new kingpin bushings in Saturday, then I can get the rest of the front end put together.
After that, I need to paint the top of the frame (I planned doing that after I flipped it over), run brake lines, then the body goes on for good!
