I've never seen the floating road runner 'caps in person, but A friend of mine once told me he found a semi-trailer,back in the '80's,parked behind a small closed-down factory,I think in Wyandotte,MI...FULL of those caps![/QUOTE] and wtf did he do with them?!
http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showthread.php?t=107575 The 60's mopar ones are called "promotional wheel discs". They were meant for a static display in a dealership.
OK, stop this already LMAO! I wear trifocals and can't take too much of this....seriously though cool as ice.
if the center stays stationary, i think this would be cool as hell done with a lancer style hubcap with the checkered pattern around the outside. look forward to seeing them on your car Kage, should look sweet.
I have finished my floating caps. here are the final pics. I have to videos I will get uploaded in the next day or so. I screwed the all thread into the tapped spindle and then cross drilled it so i could still use the cotter pin. I then ran a nut to the base of the all thread to help snug it against the spindle and to act as a stopper for the cap.
I have a couple of videos to put on here but I have had trouble loading them. Hopefully I can get them on here this weekend.
I've seen guys go as far as moving the valve stem to the backside of the wheel and welding up the hole on the front side. I think they're kool for parking lot cruising but when you hit freeway speed they have a tendency to swing back and forth on the spindle nut. Guys have been doing this forever and a day now.
I like the idea. There was a green Merc that used to go to Lead East that had floating caps & they were always a big hit. They are absolutely a traditional idea.
I bolt a small after market valve stem into the hub cap original hole using a chrome washer (to fill the oversized hole)for looks and then drill and mount the valve stem on the back side of the rim. Yes then ya have to crawl under the car to check the air pressure
Ahaha, that was a good one. Sometimes it only needs to be not liked by one "special" person and the sheep crowd will do the rest. A circular slot where the stem would poke out...then you'll have a REAL floatin hubcap edge No really, theyre hella trippy. Good job
you got to relax friend. the topic is on how to make your hubcap's stationary. not a real serious matter. just something fun to look at. sorry it tickle's my funny bone.
